What would happen in the boardroom if I asked everybody to close their eyes for a moment to contemplate a certain question in silence to then come back to the room and share their thoughts?
To begin with, I’m pretty sure my boss would cheat and keep one eye opened. But on a more serious note I think the time for reflection and listening to answers from the inside is underused in the business environment. The expectations of what to say and not, the competition for airtime, the positioning of interests and people; all work against a moment of silence.
When the time is right, when the atmosphere is open, when the people in question are ready, I will work up the courage to give it a go. If nothing else, they will remember the meeting afterwards.
